Drawing Feelings
This project is inspired by the book Niko Draws a Feeling by Bob Raczka & Illustrated by Simone Shin. In the book, Niko is an observant kid who loves to draw his world: a mother bird building a nest, the warmth of the sun on his face, the "ring a ling" of an ice cream truck. Niko's friends and family struggle to understand his art, until one day he makes a new friend and his world changes.
This project invites students to explore how lines and colors can be used to represent their feelings. There are many opportunities in this lesson for students to build social emotions skills. This lesson helps students identify emotions and familiarizes them with emotional vocabulary. Using art to help students express their feelings promotes self regulation, decision-making skills, reflection and can often be calming. |
