ArtSEL (arts integrated with social-emotional learning) is a federally funded five-year grant for 7 selected Humboldt County schools. ArtSEL was created on the basis that children learn and thrive when their social-emotional needs are met, and the arts are a natural way to meet these needs. Through sustained and intensive professional development in higher-order thinking skills and social-emotional learning through the arts for all teachers, administrators, and staff, we seek to maximize the social, intellectual, creative potential in selected schools. In short, this program trains and supports schools to build creative, collaborative, student-centered communities where everyone teaches, and the arts are seen as an approach to teaching.
