Explore the gifts of the natural world through this lesson that documents field experiences and observations through artistic expression. Through scientific observation, data collection, and nature journaling, students will translate their understanding of ecosystems into booklets filled with observational drawings. They will sketch from nature or images, identify an animal, that animal’s habitat, and what that habitat gives to the animal. This booklet will be a layered paper model that visually represents the animal/habitat/gift relationship. The project fosters curiosity, collaboration, empathy for the natural world, and deeper respect for local ecosystems.
