Welcome to the kick-off for ArtSEL's third year, where we dive into the exciting world of theater in partnership with Playhouse Arts! This two-day workshop is designed to set the stage for a year full of creativity and exploration. We'll deepen our understanding of "Reading Art and Tableau," connect to our nervous systems, and explore the intersection of social-emotional learning and theater arts. Participants will explore hands-on mask-making and mask performance workshops, laying a strong foundation for integrating these dynamic art forms into your teaching practice. Get ready to inspire and be inspired as we embark on this creative journey together!

Mask Performance Resources
Mask performance techniques can help students identify, embody and process emotions. Mask exercises can provide students with safe opportunities to practice and develop skills in: relationship building, observation, decision-making, self and social awareness.
Masks are a great way to tap into character work. Through mask exploration, students consider the mood of a character, motivation behind actions, and cause and effect of those actions. Mask performance allows students a chance to step outside of their own perspectives, and view a situation through a character’s, or others’ eyes. Through this work, students can make connections to their own thoughts, feelings, and motivations.
