History/Social Science in the Integrated Elementary Curriculum
This professional development workshop was designed to provide arts integration techniques to multiple-subject candidates in the Elementary Education program. The workshop included information about the ArtSEL program, outlined the objectives of arts integration, and provided resources for each of these components. Participants took part in a model lesson based on the human interactions with the California physical landscape that used the process of reading art to engage with the 4th grade standards. The class then used the information and insights garnered by this activity to exercise visual art skills to create collage landscapes that depicted human interaction within a region of California.
