Web Quest

In this web quest, you will explore resources for ArtSEL's third year. You will catch up on the Summer Institute, a two-day workshop that set the stage for a year full of creativity and learning.  Use this web quest to inform your teaching practice in SEL, nervous systems, theater, morning meetings, and gain a deeper understanding of Reading Art and Tableau.

You will receive six hours of PD time for completing this web quest, which includes a small art project and a task in your classroom. Take the time to complete all tasks before submitting the reflection. Take notes as you investigate; you will be submitting a reflection at the end of the quest. 🤔 indicates a reflection question or activity. (CLASSIFIED staff, do Tasks 1, 2, and one of your choice, and then do the reflection for your 3 hours of PD.)

Follow the directions for each task to explore the concepts and tools introduced at the the summer institute. Feel free to look into the resources beyond what the tasks require. It's your journey!

Enter the web quest by opening the slide deck from the summer institute ⇨

Briefly review the slides then return to this page.

Task 1: Pathways
Click on the image to explore pathways or review slide 42 in the SI Slide Deck.

ArtSEL pathways options
In lieu of a fall training, ArtSEL is offering options for a more individualized learning experience. Certificated staff are required six hours beyond the required training sessions (Winter Institute, CES, Spring Training). These pathways are also a great way to make up hours.

Personalize your pathway with workshops of your choice.

🤔  Which pathways appeal to you?

Task 2: Getting to Know Your Nervous System
Review slides 43-61 in the SI Slide Deck; read through the presenter notes.

Infographic describing tools to strengthen your ventral area, including glimmers, box breathing, singing/humming, and mindful moments
Infographic describing tools to strengthen your ventral area, including connections, stretch/movement, art/creativity, and nature

🤔 What are ways you already use some of these tools when working with kids in your school? What tools you would like to explore with yourself, your family, or with students?

Glimmer of summer Slides
Complete the activities described in the presenter notes in slides 53-58 in the SI Slide Deck to create your mask or do the Glimmer of Summer lesson.

🤔 You will be uploading a pic of your mask in the reflection.

Task 3: Mask Making Workshops
Explore your grade span workshop. You should have received materials for your classroom. Please let us know if you need anything.

🤔 After reviewing your lesson, share any excitement or concern you may have.

Task 4: Morning Meetings
Watch the video or read the article from Responsive Classrooms. The Morning Meeting Book has a wealth of resources and activities. Take the time to explore and plan.

Article: What is Morning Meeting?
🤔 What is your experience with morning meetings? How do you plan on incorporating them this year?

Task 5: Mask Performance
Review the mask performance lesson plan.
🤔 What games would you feel most comfortable leading? Why? What games would be challenging for you to lead and why?

Task 6: Reading Art and Tableau
Review the Reading Art lesson for The Wall in the Middle of the Book, and adapt it for your class.

🤔 What did you notice/wonder about how the tableau is structured in this lesson? What adaptations would you make for your class?

Culminating Task: Implement a Lesson
Choose a lesson to implement with your class. The grade span mask and mask performance lessons are mandatory for the fall, but you may choose any lesson for the web quest.

Business

Here is a brief overview of our year. Schools are offered two, 50 minute sessions with a teaching artist to support in the grade level mask and mask performance lessons. Please reach out if you would like classroom support in coaching or anything else.
